The Issue
This is one pretty convoluted story. SEAL (South Eastern Anti-desecration League) carries a page on it, the opening paragraph of which reads, "Northeast Arkansas, in present day Randolph County, along the Black River was home to Native Americans for at least 10,000 years. The land is mostly swamp and wetland and the Original Inhabitants built eathern mounds for their home and burial sites. One such 'site' was desecrated recently to provide access to a boat ramp for duck hunters on the land of Gary Gazaway." There's no producing a synopsis of what follows.

Requested Action:
On SEALs page are the names of officials it's requested one contact and ask that the ramp and road be closed and the area be placed on the Register of Historic Places, so that these important sites will not be further desecrated.

Update: The Appeals Court ruled that the road could not be closed, yet it is a crime in Arkansas to disturb burial remains. Read more at this March 16, 2000 update at SEAL (bottom of page). There is also a link to the text of the Opinion of the Appeals Court.
Update: 2001 8 Feb, TN AIM writes as to status, "The landowner has not been able to maintain his own property as per court order."
