The Issue
At the "Stop Corridor J" website, it reads: "At present, Corridor J is complete in Kentucky, and close to complete in Tennessee. The segment of Corridor J proposed and currently under consideration for northern Putnam Co. and adjacent Jackson Co. is one of the two segments of Corridor J not yet completed. This 9.7 mile segment, if built as proposed, will consist of limited access, four-lane divided highway, running east-west along a completely new route, rather than utilizing and upgrading existing routes.
Construction of the road, if authorized, will be done by the Tennessee Dept. of Transportation (TDOT). The estimated cost of the project is $63,000,000, of which 80% would be Federal funds, and 20% State of Tennessee funds. The purpose of this segment is to link State Route 111 (which was upgraded to become part of Corridor J) with SR-56 (which has also been upgraded as part of Corridor J)."
Why opposition to Corridor J in connection with Indian Burial Grounds? It seems certain caves with burial sites would be threatened.
