Subject: [ndn-aim] Crane Creek site threatened
Reply-To: ndn-aim@yahoogroups.com
Greetings;
A potential Indigenous cemetery is threatened with development at Crane
Creek Melbourne, FL.
The Brevard County AIM Support Group lead by Lisa Visconti is investigating
and contacting authorities and the developer to insure protection of the
site.
Here is their request at this time for support
It has come to my attention that the Crane Creek Indian Burial Site,
Melbourne,FL is under construction by a developer to build a medical office
Building over the site. The developer is Orthopedic Surgeon,Dr. Richard Hynes.
Dr. Hynes was told by the Division Of Historical Resources and The St. John's
Water Management District to have an archeological survey done on the
site, however, developement has not halted. This site was known as an Indian
Burial site since the 1940's. A request to have this site monitored by Bobbie
C. Billie,Spiritual Leader of the Independent Traditional Seminole Nation Of
Florida by The American Indian Movement Of Florida,Support Group Coordinators&
Members will be made, some already made, and will be personally made by Rick
and myself tomorrow when we go down to the Crane Creek Site. To desecrate a
grave at "other" cemetaries is a federal offense, and there are also laws
against the desecration of Native People's graves, those laws, obviously
ignored, not just in this situation, but many many others. It is also in hope
that if this site continues to be desecrated, more support will be
needed.Love&Peace For All,Lisa
