The Issue

The area threatened by ongoing development of Highway 56, between North Springs and Whitleyville, lies along Jennings Creek where are many mounds, native burials, occupation sites, a section of a known prehistoric native trail, a possible civil war battle site, houses eligible for inclusion in the national register of historic places and native burial caves.

Update: 2001 8 Feb, TN AIM writes as to status, "Don't have a clue. An archeo report was due out in July but never came. Rumor is they are looking at other routes?"
